Looking out through the window on Saturday morning seeing the rain that had been coming down for the last 48 hours, the road was like a river and my thoughts as to whether the Drive in would have to be cancelled went through my mind. The forecast was to expect further rain for the next few days which didn’t give me any confidence. A quick phone call to the head green keeper to see if the course would be playable was made, it was agreed that a shortened course would be playable if there was no more heavy rain.
That evening having sent out e-mails out to all those that had had confirmed they would be there to say it would be a 9 hole competition only. Looking through my e-mail box there were replies from the media to say that they couldn’t be there as other news events had taken a priority, as well as some who had been taken ill with the flu bug that I had a few weeks before.
It is said that in the face of adversity life has a way of showing you other ways to overcome the problems that are there. All the months collating and planning the day seemed to be falling apart at the last minute.
On awaking the next morning I drew back the curtains to see the sun low in the sky with the odd fluffy white cloud dotted across the horizon. My prayers had been answered.
On arriving at the golf club looking across the valley with the sun shining brightly I knew it was going to be a great day.
Seeing old friends and golfers again after such along time brought back fond memories that started to flood back to me. Time was flying by so quickly now, a photo shoot needed to take place prior to the drive in so everyone gathered around the car.
