To: All Secretaries, Club Captains
Ladies & Gentlemen,
I would just like to clarify a few points that some clubs have found misleading.
Firstly, the Penny challenge was set up not to overshadow, or replace the club Captains charities in any way. Each Captain has their elected local, or, national charity that they will be helping in their year of office, which, I know will be well supported by the members. Their donations will be far more than 1p I‘m sure. As would visiting societies be pleased to help too.
How often have you said “A penny for your thoughts” to someone? Take a moment to reflect on the children who won’t grow up and get married, or have children of their own, or have a long and fruitful life. Some won’t see the end of my challenge. Last year 43 children passed away in these hospices. Let’s bring a smile to those that are still here?
Secondly, the tee times for the challenge have been arranged in such a way as not to infringe on prime tee times or interfere with club competitions. I hope that all clubs would embrace the challenge and help these children.
One of the priorities this year is to raise funds to build a playground in Ty Gobaith, one of the centres near Conway, which is well overdue, and to re furbish one that is outdated in Hope House near Oswestry.
All children should have the freedom to play in a safe environment, especially those children that have precious little time left. One of the Mum’s said “It’s a place for living”. Ty Hafan is not a place to die, it’s a place to live and make memories”.
It would be nice to hear their laughter, and see their smiles, after all we have our playgrounds don’t we?……170 golf courses here in Wales.
Lets make one for them.
Thank you,
Regards,
Stan Humphreys
